Best Summertime Activities in Colorado

From June to August, go back in time at the Colorado Renaissance Festival in Larkspur. 2016 will be their 40th anniversary, and they will be open nine weekends. Feast on roast turkey legs. Laugh at the crazy antics of the jesters. Shout huzzah for the jousters. Listen to the minstrels. Bring your wallet; the Renaissance Festival is a shopper's paradise.
The Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster is a wonderful opportunity to explore a rain forest. There are over 5,000 animals, including 1,600 butterflies. It's a great family activity, both fun and educational.
Keystone is home to plenty of festivals: the Blue Ribbon Bacon Tour in June, the Wine and Jazz Festival and the River Run Village Art Festival in July, and the 20th Annual Bluegrass and Beer Festival and Mountain Town Music Festival in August. All offer delicious treats, good music, and shopping opportunities.
Colorado is home to many zoos and museums. Summer is a great time to visit them. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, the only mountainside zoo in the USA, has the largest herd of reticulated giraffes in the country. Denver Zoo was the first zoo in the USA to replace cages with naturalistic enclosures that mimics the animals' native habitats. Pueblo Zoo, in addition to the usual exhibits of foreign and exotic animals, also has a Colorado Wetlands exhibit focusing on local creatures.
Colorado has plenty of outdoor activities year-round. Activities in summer include visiting the nearest park to throw a Frisbee or kick a ball, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. Colorado is full of festivals during the summer: the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Greeley Stampede, the Hot Air Balloon Rodeo in Steamboat Springs, the Colorado State Fair, and more.
