Colorado in the Summertime: A Kaleidoscope of Activities
Posted on Mar 10, 2016Colorado's mountains, parks, and venues make for a fun-filled summertime. Here are our top picks for the season's must-do activities:
Wine Country
Cool mountain nights, warm daytime temperatures in our plateaus and valleys, and low humidity make Colorado an ideal location for growing world-class grapes. We have more than 100 wine producers all over the state, with a prime spot being the historic Western Slope near Grand Junction and Palisade. You can even take a "wine trail" tour along the Olathe, Colorado by Wine, or Wining in Boulder routes.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
The mystique of this natural acoustic wonder makes for a summer concert experience that you wouldn't want to miss. Stunning views paired with awe-inspiring sounds create a magical night under the stars. The Flaming Lips, Grace Potter, and The Lumineers are just a few of the acts gracing the stage of in Summer 2016. While you're there you can also check out the Performer's Hall of Fame, movie nights, the hiking and biking trails, and Yoga on the Rocks.
Ski Resorts
You might be wondering what skiing and summer have to do with each other, but here in Colorado we get innovative to make the fun last into the warmer months. Check out the alpine slide and 18-hole putting course at Winter Park and the mountain biking and whitewater rafting at Keystone. Many of our other resorts have summer fun too, from bungee rides to climbing walls and more!
Rocky Mountain National Park
With over 300 miles of hiking trails, white water rafting, kayaking, biking, boating, horseback riding, exquisite dining, and one-of-a-kind panoramas, there's an amazing array of experiences to be had at this natural treasure. While you're there we'd recommend viewing the wildflowers and painted turtles at the National Wildlife Refuge, squeezing in some solitude at Sky Pond and Lake of Glass, and enjoying the fabulous fare at the Trailhead Restaurant with deck views that will take your breath away.
Amusement Parks
Our wide array of roller coasters, water rides, shows, and arcades means there's never a dull moment here. Some of our favorite spots for fun with the kids are Water World, Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park, and of course the 956 foot-high suspension bridge at Royal Gorge Bridge and Park.
