How to Stay Cool in Colorado

It's hot. Not your glacier melting, global warming, cataclysmic, hot, but it's dang hot! So How to Stay Cool in Colorado?  There are many scenarios from which to choose, in Castle Rock and Westminister, but here are a few that offer fun, frivolity and frugal summer savings!

To swim or not to swim!

Perhaps the decision is made to add a pool to the property. It is a big decision for any homeowner and, while the benefits of sipping on a cocktail while tanning are tempting, the cost of installation, maintenance and added insurance are often not factored into the impulse buy. Interview different companies and make sure this is a family decision. They may decide it's much easier to go to the fun water-parks instead. Perhaps even a dip or camping at Standley Lake.  Either way, water is a necessity in this summers' heat!

Oudoors..inside!

In Castle Rock, at over 6200 ft of elevation, temperatures remain relatively comfortable throughout the summer. Hiking or biking, on any one of the 75 miles worth of trails, is ideal. But kiddos may not be so enthusiastic with that idea. Another way to cool down out of the home is at the Miller Activity Complex! With trampolines, indoor golf simulators, pools, batting cages..the list is vast! There truly is something for everyone!

Make your home like a cooler!

This may be the "boring" item,of the list, when considering how to cool off in summer. It may seem obvious, but, add more insulation. While it's not fun to think about crawling into an attic with temperatures around 150 degrees plus, it's equally not fun to be in your home which is not cooling. Adding insulation doesn't have to break the bank and can add money back to your wallet with efficiency and a future home sale.  Here are some examples of frugal to flamboyant when it comes to adding insulation to a home.

           a) Do it yourself- For a modest price, the local Lowes or Home Depot rent blowers and various types of fillers to blow the attic spaces yourself. Likewise, one may elect the batten type of insulation to be rolled out. This article shows the ease of blowing in insulation on your own. This method is the most cost efficient and can significantly reduce loss of heat/cooling and improve comfort in a home.

           b) Foam it up- the newest, latest and greatest (as well as most expensive) insulation is a spray foam product. This type of insulation creates a thick seamless air barrier behind drywall and between framing, attic and, even,  in the crawl spaces. The efficiency and R-value of this product cannot be over stated. But this product comes with a price. Contact a local Castle Rock or Westminster professional for an estimate.
