Here are a few ideas for some weekend destinations that aren't too far from home.
Rocky Mountain National Park
Just an hour and a half away from Denver, this gorgeous park is the perfect place to pitch a tent and spend the weekend camping out. Be sure to take hiking gear, plus a good camera because the views are absolutely amazing.
Gunnison, CO
Whether you are a fan of hiking, fishing, kayaking, or climbing, there is something for you to do in Gunnison. This fun-to-visit city is just about three and a half hours from Denver, and features plenty of fun to fill an entire weekend. Don't forget to visit the "living ghost town" of Tin Cup and the Pioneer Museum while you're in the area.
Colorado Springs
Home to a variety of tourist attractions, and a little over an hour from Denver, Colorado Springs is a great place to spend a day or two. The cute zoo and Santa's Workshop theme park are fun for kids, and various beautiful works of nature—including Pike's Peak—surround the area, making for a picturesque stay.
