Ten Colorado Summertime Activities

Are you thinking of making Colorado your permanent home? Team Lassen can help! Summertime is quickly approaching, and it is the perfect time to find your new home. Here are ten fun activities to fill your first Colorado summer.

1. Visit the Zoo

Denver's Zoo is a great way to spend a day in the summer sun. The zoo is open every day of the year, rain or shine. Watch the penguins have a feast, learn all about elephants in an exciting live demonstration, meet llamas, and view the sea lions daily feeding and playtime. Bring your own picnic lunch, or stop by one of the park's many food trucks or cafés.

2. Cool off at the Museum

If a day in the sun is not your idea of fun, cool off at Denver's Museum of Nature and Science. Here visitors can walk through the many exhibitions, see an imax movie, or get a glimpse into outer space at the planetarium. Many of the exhibits are hands-on, including the discovery zone and exhibition health. The museum is open every day of the year from 9 AM to 5 PM and has several dining and shopping opportunities.

3. Take a Relaxing Walk through Beautiful Gardens

Denver's Botanic Gardens are a beautiful way to spend a summer day outside. The gardens span 24 acres, and each are unique. There are western, international, ornamental, shady, and even water gardens. Take a day to surround yourself with diverse plants and flowers and rejuvenate after a long week.

4. Attend a Concert

Red Rocks Amphitheater is one of Colorado's main attractions. "At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a unique transitional zone where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. The diverse environment allows visitors to see plants, birds and animals of both regions. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon – the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world." Concerts are held here several times a week throughout the summer, and it is sure to provide a night full of fun and great music.

5. Try Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting is the perfect summer activity for adrenaline junkies or the adventurous! There are many levels of rafting to choose from, and all follow extreme safety guidelines. Each trip is unique to the passengers on the raft, and there are many customizable options. Some rafting trips even include lunch on the river, which allows you to meet new people and make friends with similar interests.

6. Visit Waterworld

Waterworld is one of America's largest water parks and rests on 64 beautifully landscaped acres. The park has 50 attractions, thrill rides, family tube rides, children's play adventures, and many picnic areas. Cool off in the water and enjoy a day full of adventure and excitement. Waterworld has many food and drink options as well as a gift shop for anything you may need for a day in the sun.

7. Visit Elitch Gardens

Elitch Gardens is the biggest theme park in Colorado, and it is a frequent destination for Colorado natives. In 2015, Elitch Gardens celebrated their 125 year anniversary, and this year, they will open the newest ride, Star Flyer. On this ride, "48 guests sit two across in open-air seats, feet dangling and hair blowing while ascending to the top of the 17-story tower and flying round and round at more than 50 mph." The park has many opportunities for shopping and dining, and it has water rides as well.

8. Take a Jeep Tour

Learn about Colorado's history, paleontology, and geology while traveling on some of Colorado's most scenic roads. Each tour is unique, and you can choose from locations such as the Royal Gorge or Red Canyon Park.

9. Go Ziplining

Guests can zip across the Colorado river, challenge themselves on a high ropes course, and even scale a rock climbing wall. This ziplining company is between the towns of Vail and Aspen, which are two beautiful and famous mountain towns. Have some ziplining fun and finish the day with shopping and dining in Vail or Aspen.

10. Visit Rocky Mountain National Park

No Colorado summer is complete without a trip to the mountains. Hike, bike, walk, or watch the wildlife in Rocky Mountain National Park. The temperatures are cooler, and the forests provide ample shade. Take a day to completely relax and soak in the many benefits that nature can provide.
